Exploring Lundy: A Poetic Morning Walk

A morning walk on Lundy Island. Discover the Lundy Haiku’s along the Felix Gade. Here, poetry, walking, and landscape quietly meet.

One of my favourite things about walking on Lundy is stumbling across small, unexpected moments of visitors creativity. This morning, the walk was an easy stroll to the Felix Gade Hut. It is off the island’s main tracks, just beyond quarter wall. I went to check on the Lundy Haiku’s that visitors are typing on the typewriter I have left in the hut,

The Lundy Haiku’s project is about bringing poetry into the landscape in a simple, unobtrusive way. The haiku’s are typed by visitors rather than handwritten. They consist of a few carefully chosen words that respond to place, weather, and movement.

This morning, the walk itself became part of the experience. The sound of birds awakening my senses. The long views across Lundy influence my walk, as i think about how visitors have responded to the Haiku’s. These moments remind me how closely walking, creativity, and landscape are intertwined here.

Today i decided to video the morning walk to check out the haiku that are being typed at the Felix Gade hut

  1. You’re certainly getting some mileage out of that typewriter!

I taught myself to touchtype on something similar, way back when.

    Mobile word machine
    Ancient stone surrounding you
    Countless haikus flow
